Goboland would like to announce the appointment of gobo guru Wyatt Enever as exclusive consultant to their fast growing, innovative company. Based in the UK office alongside Head of UK Operations Vicky Fairall, Enever will become part of the expanding international team which covers the USA and Asia as well as Europe.

A leading light in the technical development of gobo manufacture and production, Enever was a founding member of DHA Lighting Ltd, alongside David Hersey, where he was Managing Director for almost 20 years.
When DHA Lighting was finally sold to Rosco in 2005, Enever returned to his photographic roots by ?
setting up Studio Wyatt, specialising in large format projection work and producing large format slides for the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Opera House, the RSC and various other set and lighting designers using PANI, PIGI, DERKSEN, GRIVEN and STARK projectors. Enever was also responsible for producing numerable bespoke projection solutions, such as renewed versions of some older established VSFX cloud and rain discs, using traditional as well as digital photographic techniques and in house Cibachrome production.
Two years down the line Enever has returned to his specialism in gobos and brings his years of technological and marketing excellence to Goboland with an intent to bring the decades-old gobo concept to a new level.
‘Goboland is a very exciting company to which I am looking forward to bringing several new projects,’ explains Enever. ‘When we began to develop methods of gobo production back in the ‘70s, lantern optics were very inferior to the high quality units we have on the market today. Consequently, today’s optical excellence demands an equally advanced product in the image being projected. I am working on ways of bringing gobo technology up to date and Goboland is the ideal company to bring the benefits of these developments to the industry at large.’

Goboland has recently produced gobos for several London West End productions including Evita at the Adelphi theatre and David Pugh & Dafydd Rogers’ production of Equus at the Gielgud theatre. It was David Hersey, lighting designer for Equus, who commissioned Wyatt Enever to produce some ‘fairly complicated artwork’ involving keystoning and soft-edging of a number of images for this critically acclaimed production. Once completed,these artworks were then sent by David Hersey to Goboland who produced the gobos, sparking off a collaboration which led to Enever joining the team at Goboland.
The touring production of Daddy Cool, the musical telling the story of ‘70s group Boney M, was performed April 26-June 24 in the unusual setting of EuropArena, Berlin - a 2000+ seat touring tent measuring 70m diameter and 30m high.
Produced by Frank Farian and Robert Mackintosh and lit by Rob Halliday, the equipment was supplied by Racks&Stacks and White Light and the gobos, of course, by Goboland. Says Halliday, ‘It was a delight working with Goboland, as ever. They responded quickly which was vital as the final 'go' for the show was given relatively late in the day. The gobos were great quality, as was the service from the staff at Goboland who worked with us when there were problems outside of their control - like the inevitable late couriers!’
Goboland gobos were used in Mac 700s and VL3000s – one of which included the show logo projected on the front cloth – and in the houselights. The houselights comprise of 55 ETC Source Fours with 50 deg lenses projecting 'broken light' coverage over the audience to create atmosphere. “They look beautiful,’ explains Halliday, ‘and we also use them to chase at various bits of the show, which is great fun’
Gobos were also used as on-stage back- and side-light gobo washes, where custom 'Leaf Architecture' patterns were created by Vicky Fairall to match the show's painted floor. The artwork was created directly from show floor samples with the brief to produce “a gobo that can say either 'light through trees' or 'light in rugged industrial cityscape' according to mood”. The results now form part of the standard Goboland collection as follows:

Outside theatre, Goboland has worked on projects including the newly opened Amora: the Academy of Sex & Relationships in London. Lit by Peter Fordham of DHA Designs, the venue is described as ‘The capital’s sexiest attraction’ promising to tell you ‘all about attraction, love and relationships. … It’s fun, sexy, sensual and inspiring. … interactive, engaging and educational’ Well, Goboland has never been shy in coming forward!

PALME Dubai (20-22 May 2007) marked Wyatt Enever’s first engagement with Goboland when the company exhibited there for the third time. “We are very excited about the Middle East market,” explains Dielen. “There is a great deal of interest in what we have to offer to the entertainment and corporate event markets and Wyatt’s skills in keystoning and calculating images will be much in demand in the booming fields of architecture and projected advertising.”
“The great thing about our gobo products is the way they can be tailored to fit so many differing market sectors’ explains Enever. “Goboland is determined to be in the forefront of gobo development in this region”
The ABTT show at London’s Horticultural Halls (13 & 14 June 2007) proved to be another productive show for the company. “This is a funny, cosy, friendly show and I believe we do more business here than at many of the larger shows”, commented Dielen. The second time Goboland have exhibited at ABTT, the company were showing the prototype of their high resolution full colour gobos in an ETC 36deg EDLT lens. “After two years out of the gobo business, I still find it fascinating to see how much interest there is in gobos,” claims Enever. “Our high resolution colour gobos are a really cutting edge product and the demand is immense.”
Goboland was also present on the DB Lux stand (Stand no 235, Halle 1) at Showtech, Berlin (19-21 June 2007).
